DA prints ... are a rip-off.

The standard "everyone gets a freebie" account gives you 20% of any sale over base cost. That is, if you have a print with a base cost of $15, and it's marked up to $50 sale price, the total profit is $35, which you get $7 of. Yes, that means you get $7, DA gets $43. Bit screwy, eh?

If you pay the yearly $25 for a "plus/premium" (whatever it's called) account and sell the same $15 base cost / $50 markup print, you'll get half the profit ($17.50). And DA gets almost double that at $32.50.

The premium account is SLIGHTLY better because you can change the sale prices, but you still get last than half the total (after you take out the "base cost") and have to worry about selling enough to make back that $25 fee each year.

If you want to make moeny off of prints, the best way would be to print them out yourself or at a local store (Office Max, Kinkos, etc) and mail them to the buyer. That way you get 100% of the profit after base cost / shipping, and can usually sell them cheaper than DA.

You're welcome! And that's exactly why I have a Cafepress instead of DA. The "base" cost for any item is a tiny bit higher, but all the markups are 100% yours.

I joined DA yesterday and initially thought "Wow, I could make some money by selling my prints!"

Ha - $22.50 NZD and I'd get $1.50 out of it....no way. Goodness me.

PS - Call me stupid but how do you go about adding people to your DA? By clicking "Watch this deviant?"

yeah u make crap all from dA, cafepress.com is heaps better. I reckon you would make money with a cool PSGR shirt or something to sell on your site.
anyway yep if you haven't already figured since i took too long to reply, watching a deviant adds them to your friends list, and then every time that person adds something new u get an alert. but if they want to receive alerts on anything new from you they must add you..
